Meet
Dr Alistair Graham
Dr Alistair Graham is the principal dentist and owner of Mona Vale Dental. He has more than 25 years of experience helping patients care for, repair, and improve their smiles.
People come to see Dr Graham for many different reasons. Some simply want to make sure their teeth and gums are healthy. Others want help with worn, chipped, or missing teeth, changes in their smile, or more complex dental concerns.
Dr Graham is known for his calm and thoughtful approach. He believes in taking the time to understand what is happening before recommending treatment. This helps ensure care is carefully planned, clearly explained, and designed to look natural, feel comfortable, and last well.
He has a particular interest in dental implants, smile makeovers, veneers, tooth wear, and rebuilding worn or damaged teeth.
Patients also value that Dr Graham provides both the surgical placement of dental implants and the final restoration of the tooth, which means treatment can often be completed under one roof at Mona Vale Dental.

Experience and expertise
Dr Graham has completed advanced postgraduate training in dental implants and restorative dentistry and regularly helps patients with more complex dental concerns.
He is a Digital Smile Design Master, Key Opinion Leader, and Educator, and is involved in teaching and mentoring dentists in areas such as dental implants, digital dentistry, and the treatment of worn teeth.
Dentists from across the Northern Beaches and around Australia attend the study clubs and education programs he leads to discuss complex cases and advances in modern dentistry.
For patients, this reflects the depth of experience and careful planning Dr Graham brings to their care.
Dr Graham’s approach to your care
Good dental care starts with understanding the full picture.
Rather than looking at just one tooth, Dr Graham looks at how your teeth, bite, and jaw work together. This helps him plan treatment that supports both your smile and the way your teeth function.
Patients often say they value the time he takes to listen and explain things clearly.
For many people, having a clear explanation and a clear plan makes dental treatment feel far less overwhelming.

When patients typically come to see Dr Graham
People often come to see Dr Graham when they want answers, reassurance, or a clear plan for what to do next.
Patients often see Dr Graham for:
- A thorough check-up to make sure their teeth and gums are healthy
- Worn, chipped, or broken teeth
- Missing teeth or teeth that may need replacing
- Old crowns or dental work that needs attention
- Bite problems or jaw discomfort

Some patients are also referred to Dr Graham by other dentists when dental problems are more complex or require more detailed treatment planning.
Concerned your teeth may be wearing down?
Many people notice small changes in their teeth over time without realising that tooth wear may be the cause.
You might notice:
- Front teeth chipping more easily
- Teeth looking shorter or flatter
- Increased tooth sensitivity
- Worn edges on the teeth
- Difficulty eating certain foods comfortably
- Teeth feeling weaker or more fragile
Tooth wear often happens slowly, so it can be easy to miss at first. Over time, those changes can become more noticeable.
Dr Graham has a particular interest in diagnosing and treating tooth wear. An important part of this is understanding why it is happening, which may involve grinding, clenching, acid erosion or bite problems.
Once the cause is understood, treatment can be carefully planned to help protect the teeth and restore strength, comfort, and function.
Smile makeovers and improving your smile
Improving a smile is not just about how it looks. It also needs to feel comfortable and work well over time.
Dr Graham has a strong interest in smile makeover planning and cosmetic dentistry.
Many patients who want to improve their smile have noticed changes over time. Their teeth may look worn, uneven, or chipped, or older dental work may no longer look natural.
Dr Graham does not only look at how the teeth appear. He also considers the bite, tooth wear, and the health of the teeth and gums before recommending treatment. This helps make sure the result not only looks good, but also feels comfortable and functions well.
Dr Graham is a Digital Smile Design Master, Key Opinion Leader, and Educator. For more complex smile treatments, he works closely with the Digital Smile Design Planning Centre in Madrid, where experienced clinicians help review and plan cases.
This collaborative planning allows treatment to be carefully designed before it begins, helping create results that look natural, function well, and suit each patient’s face and smile.
Digital Smile Design can also allow patients to preview and better understand their new smile before treatment begins, helping them feel more confident about the plan.
He also works closely with orthodontic specialists on the Northern Beaches. In some cases, planning begins before orthodontic treatment starts, so the final result can be designed with the end in mind from the very beginning, helping achieve a smile that looks natural, feels comfortable, and functions well long term.

Dental implants for replacing missing teeth
Dental implants can be a long-term option for replacing missing teeth and restoring comfort, function, and confidence.
Dr Graham has extensive experience in dental implant treatment and completed a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry in Oral Implants at the University of Sydney.
Patients often see him when they have a missing tooth, may be about to lose a tooth, or want a long-term option to restore comfort, function, and confidence in their smile.
One aspect many patients appreciate is that Dr Graham provides both the implant surgery and the final replacement tooth. This means treatment can often be completed under one roof at Mona Vale Dental rather than being referred between multiple clinics.
Careful digital planning and guided implant treatment help place implants accurately from the start, supporting long-term comfort, function, and natural-looking results.
In some situations, bone grafting may also be recommended to help rebuild or strengthen the bone, providing the implant with a stable foundation.
Technology that helps you understand your smile
Modern technology can help clarify diagnoses and make treatment easier to understand.
Dr Graham uses modern digital technology to make diagnoses more accurate and to help patients better understand their teeth and treatment options.
At Mona Vale Dental, this may include digital scans, clinical photographs, CBCT 3D imaging, Digital Smile Design planning, Modjaw jaw tracking, and CEREC same-day crown technology.
Together, these technologies help Dr Graham build a fuller picture of your teeth, bite, and jaw before recommending treatment. This allows care to be planned more carefully from the beginning, with a clearer understanding of what is happening and why.
They also help you see what Dr Graham is seeing. Scans and photographs can show worn areas, cracks, or bite changes much more clearly than words alone, making it easier to understand your options and feel confident about the next step.
CBCT 3D imaging can provide extra detail when planning treatments such as dental implants and other more complex care.
Modjaw jaw tracking records how the jaw moves in real time. This can help identify whether jaw movement may be contributing to tooth wear, bite problems, clenching, grinding, or TMJ concerns.
CEREC same-day crown technology allows high-quality ceramic crowns to be designed and made in a single visit, which can mean no temporary crown and fewer appointments.
Together, these technologies support more precise diagnosis, clearer explanations, and carefully planned treatment.
Helping patients feel comfortable
Feeling comfortable matters, especially if you feel nervous about dental treatment.
Dr Graham understands that some people feel nervous about dental treatment.
He takes time to listen, answer questions, and make sure patients understand what is happening before treatment begins.
For more complex procedures, including some implant treatments, intravenous sedation can be arranged when appropriate to help patients feel deeply relaxed during treatment.
Training and professional involvement
Alongside patient care, Dr Graham is also involved in advanced training and education within dentistry.
Dr Graham completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
He later completed a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry in Oral Implants at the University of Sydney, a three-year postgraduate program focused on implant treatment.
He is a Digital Smile Design Master, Key Opinion Leader, and Educator, and a Key Opinion Leader for Modjaw, Dentsply Sirona, Straumann, and Geistlich.
Dr Graham is also involved in teaching and mentoring other dentists. He leads study clubs on the Northern Beaches where dentists discuss complex cases and advances in implant and restorative dentistry.
He is a member of the Australian Dental Association and the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and leads the ITI Northern Beaches Study Club.
Outside the practice
After moving to Australia in 2004, Dr Graham made the Northern Beaches home and founded Mona Vale Dental in 2009. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, walking their Bernese Mountain Dog, cooking, trail running, and mountain biking.
